Why Winding Machine Selection Matters
The winding machine is the heart of brushless motor production. Choosing the wrong model leads to inefficiency at best — complete batch rejection at worst. Three Main Winding Technologies
Inner Winding
Best for: Outer-rotor BLDC motor stators. The winding nozzle operates from inside the stator.
Advantages: High slot fill rate (80%+), tight winding, ideal for high power density motors.
Limitations: Minimum inner diameter requirement — may not work for micro motors.
Outer Winding
Best for: Inner-rotor BLDC motor stators. The nozzle operates from outside.
Advantages: Wide application range, easy maintenance, fast changeover.
Limitations: Slightly lower slot fill than inner winding; tension control is critical for thick wire.
Flyer Winding
Best for: Special slot shapes, heavy gauge wire, high speed requirements.
Advantages: Fast winding speed, ideal for mass production, handles thick wire well.
Limitations: Higher equipment cost, requires skilled operators.
Three Key Selection Parameters
- Stator Dimensions: OD, ID, stack height. The first gate — too big won't fit, too small won't hold.
- Wire Gauge Range: What diameter enameled wire do you use? Different tension systems handle different ranges.
- Production Volume: How many pieces per day? Single or multi-station? This determines configuration and budget.
